La Sirena
Le Barrettage Syrah
This wine is a play on Rhone Hermitage style wines, named Le Barrettage. If you had this blind, you wouldn’t necessarily call Syrah and certainly not Rhone.
This is a very ripe, lush, rounded wine that is pure elegance. Dark fruits, strawberries with blueberries over the top, rich, moist dark earth, used leather, lightly savory meats, black pepper, underbrush, great round acidity with bight; dark, red, purple and blue florals. Good young and will age easily 10 years.
All of the La Sircena wines are small production. Hundreds of cases. 2500 cases of total production.
Good to see our friend Dave Schulze formerly of Joseph Phelps & Brand again.

Oct 9th, 2019Another 4th Friday for the books!
This was my contribution...Heidi Barrett wine. If tasting blind, I would have guessed Coombsville Cab. Dark as night in the glass. Hard to analyze at pop and pour. Got very perfumed with time to show a lot of red and black fruit (similar to the sweet, crunchy fruit I get with Coombsville)...gained some heft to show licorice and lavender. Not meaty or extracted. A tad peppery on the palate with fresh squeezed blackberries, raspberries, cherry cordial. Probably 2-3yrs until peak.

I drank the whole bottle in one night, which is something I rarely do. Obviously, I loved it.

Nov 29th, 2014One of my very favorite hermitage style wines. Love this line of la Sirena. Strongly recommend the barrettage and their signature Cabernet.

Oct 23rd, 20142010 fest. Heidi Barrett Northern Rhône style red blend. Good wine on the nose and and palate. Very balanced on the palate. Contrasting flavors of deep ripe fruit and oak and vanilla. Lighter bodied but no less intriguing.

Apr 29th, 2023Boutique Syrah from Napa. Dark ruby on the glass. It is immediately complex on the nose with ripe blackberry, pomegranate, smoke, meat and a hint of pepper. The complexity continuous on the pallet and amplified with a silky mouthfeel and a prolonged cocoa finish. At seven years it is dry with firm tannings and very structured which only means it has another seven years of aging left, if not more. Definitely a highlight wine; complex and powerful yet elegant, as serious Syrah should be. A great homage to Norther Rhone wines; if I would have tasted this alongside other red Northern Rhone Wines I would have not told them apart; and that is a good thing.

Aug 2nd, 2020HAPPY 4TH of JULY!! 1st vintage from this Napa vineyards syrah from Heidi Barrett(200 cases). Pays homage to L'Hermitage Rhone region(got a kick out of the wine name and bought it, forgot it, pulled it from the cellar today).
Double decant and pour. A stately inky dark garnet color. On the nose: plum, earthy, smoked meat, herbal, vanilla. Taste: A juicy, silky wine with fading dark fruit, dried herbs, milk chocolate.....with a spicy leather medium plus finish. Tannins are resolved...drink em if you got em!!
