Kistler Vineyard Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir

This was very ripe...almost overripe? The fruit (raspberries, blackberries, candied cranberry) seemed stewed. Fig, maple, and baked mixed berry pie. More baking spice as opposed to herbal spices. Dense and flavor packed.

The baseline Kistler is not flashy but delivers a solid stat line every time out. Like the Charlie Blackmon of wine, without the beard.

Smells like a Sauternes. Super cloudy, unfiltered and unfined in appearance. Acidic cherry yet softly cherry. Roses cranberries. Fresh strawberry. I like this a lot.

Magnum for Xmas

Showing restraint. Not extracted or dense; plush red fruit and coastal typicity.

Strawberry jam, mint and some red licorice. Lacked acid and bigger than like but still good.

Wednesday Wine Committee. As always, wines are tasted blind. 1 sparkler, 2 whites, 4 reds, 1 dessert.

A very rich and fruit forward Pinot. More of a sweet note compared to the Montagu. Almost leaned towards a light zin, but it revealed itself better after some air time. All fruit from the red, black and blue color spectrum. Borders the line of a cab lovers pinot. Again, I guessed this varietal correctly. ✔️

Drinking beautifully tonight. This wine still has a lot of life ahead. At least another 5-7 years. The fruits are slightly syrupy and candied. The body is full, round & lush. Ripe; blackberries, black cherries, plum, black raspberries, dry cranberries & strawberries paint the background. Followed by; black cherry licorice, light cinnamon, clove & vanilla, semi-sweet wet turned black earth earth, dry stems, soft volcanic minerals, touch of mint, fresh & dry dark florals. The mouthfeel is lush, thick & silky. The acidity is dead on. The length, balance, tension are in perfect evolution/harmony. The finish is a long lasting pleasure you just don't find in too many Pinot's.
