Bought this as an experiment. Kirkland branded wines are hit and miss. The Gigondas last year was great. The Chateauneuf this year good, but not as good.

This was surprising. Not sure if the make up, but feels more merlot centric. Some smoothness, maybe cab franc? Served with a cacciatore, perhaps a little heavy in tannins, but no, I didn't think so. A little tobacco, creamy leather, earthy. It can work with anything rich, tomatoey - braciole? I could imagine this with lamb dishes. Great for the price pojnt.

Clear, medium to deep ruby in color; on the nose, it's clean with pronounced primary and secondary aromas of black plums, cassis, and graphite on the nose; on the palate, it's dry with high acidity, high tannins, high alcohol, full body, and pronounced intensity primary and secondary flavors of blackberries, black cherries, wet gravel, and eucalyptus with a long finish. This wine is complex and intense. I think it will be even better with a long decant. Surprisingly, I'm rating this wine as outstanding.

I love Margaux so bought this at Costco for the price. It’s not taste I recall. Lighter and more cherry. I do enjoy but not what i expected.
