This bottle was, surprisingly, a bit tired. It was ok but it lacked the vibrance I've found in previous bottles.

The Kir-Yianni Ramnista 2009 is 100% Xinomavro, an indigenous variety that is lauded as the noblest red in Greece, the root "Xino" means sour and "mavro" translated, means black. Does it live up to its name? The nose is a gathering storm of black olive tapenade and black currant aromas, leather, violets, smoke and coriander seed. On the palate, brash, slightly astringent mid-palate tannins hem in juicy Italian plums, iron ore, wild game, and yes markedly high acid. Needs time. 14.0% ABV

This burly Greek beast took days to open up but is now showing off an intriguing herbal bitterness & good acidity. Xinomavro!

Fun stuff but tastes like from '99 vs '09

Mmmmmm! Beautiful pomegranate acid and clean leather! Young but so alluring! This vintage will age to a goddess, even if I find the youthful bite alluring. Wow.

Interesting tar and floral characteristics somewhat reminiscent of Nebbiolo.

A little tannin-y but opened up nicely as it breathed. Good structure. Not a drink-alone; went very well with spicy rack of lamb. Mom and Dad's, courtesy of Russell
