Aug 6th, 2021Wine to go with Thanksgiving dinner #1. This time we hosted dinner with the in-laws. Gewurz with Thanksgiving may be a cliche, but that doesn't make it any less excellent. On the wine: I bottled this in March knowing that it had a little cabbage-y type reduction and that it perceived as a little hot. I believed in this wine. I knew it would come around. I was right!! 8 months later the wine is beautiful, with intense floral notes overlaying deep tropical aromatics. The alcohol no longer sticks out as bitter but instead gives a sense of richness. A good lesson in patience, demonstrating that an awkward youth can lead to remarkable things down the line.

Feb 14th, 2015Part of winemaker August Deimel’s single-vineyard program, the Keuka Spring Vineyards 2012 “Pre-Emption Vineyard” Gewurztraminer offers a bright nose of sweet melon and pear with the floral notes you expect from the variety — but more white flower than rose petal. Mouth-filling but not overweight, the palate brings sweet, over-ripe honeydew and lemon drop candy flavors with floral undernotes. The midpalate steers toward cloying, but the combination of just-enough acidity and bitterness on the finish keeps it in check. The finish turns more floral but ripe, sweet fruit remains.

Odd aroma and taste. Can’t quite identify it. Doesn’t really come across as a Gewürztraminer to me.

2020 was another excellent year for Keuka Springs Gewurztraminer! Nicely spicy, well balanced, a delight to drink with or without food!
