In 1983 K-J introduced Grand Reserve, a line of premium wines. Dark Ruby with aromas of dark fruits and pepper spice. Blended with small amounts of Cab Franc, Petit Verdot, Merlot and Malbec. Tried several times. On the palate plum and tart cherry with cacao and oak. Rustic tannins, medium finish ending with slight fruit tones. Just Ok, but past it’s prime. Not a fan, several others in similar price range are better.

Rustic tannins, medium finish ending with slight fruit tones. Ok, but I’m not a fan, several others in similar price range are better. Tasting Sample.

Found a bottle of the 2007 at a shop. Matt Smith makes some killer wines!

Great value. Costco carries it for $14 in Southern California stores.

Pretty bold red. Needs to breath for 5 minutes or be decanted. Overall nice red.

Candied fruit--more accurately, the jarred" maraschino" cherries pumped full of artificial flavor & high fructose corn syrup. And then you made a pie with them. Tasted blind & two people called it a zin.

On the nose this is rather vegetal with blackcurrant leaf to the fore followed by riper cassis notes, almost port like in character, black chocolate and bitter liquorice also showing. I. The mouth the dark berry fruit is rather staid but with juicy tannins and a boring finish, very uninspiring stuff!
