Old vines, basket pressed.
Wow, this is a big wine, but the elegance and the balance are impressive
Huge intensity on the nose
Tasting it you can hardly feel it’s 15,5%
The flavour is immense
Fruit yes, but the focus is on liquorice and aniseed
Super fresh and quite tannic to be an Oz Shiraz . Never ending finish
Tasted just after a Basket Press 2001 Rockford I’d say this has more to say in the future when Rockford was more enjoyable now. Two great Oz wines anyway. At least another 10 years to go...I’d be curious

2003 Vintage. 15.5% Alcohol. Basket pressed old vine Shiraz that used to be a source for Penfolds Grange, planted in 1875. This was huge fruit and velvet texture with long finish. Last sips went well with milk chocolate for dessert.

A very interesting comparison to the previous nights Grange. On the nose a very similar intensity that says Australian Shiraz. It is on the palate where the difference is found. Intense fruit flavors with a focus on the red fruit spectrum and a wonderful lift provided by a fair amount of acidity. Secondary flavors of dried earth. No rough edges and a very long finish. I wish I had another bottle to see where this goes. Never expected this type of refinement. ( in the scope of Shiraz, not Burgundy😊)
