Old Bastard Barossa Valley Shiraz

Limited notes from my 70th birthday lunch. From Jeroboam. A full bodied old vine Shiraz from the Barossa. A plush palate with black plummy fruits.

Vintage 2004

This needs aging. Northern Rhône style. Full of elegance.

Langtons Outstanding category. Another Barossa Shiraz based on very old vines, in this case planted around 1893. Again, no detailed notes but it was lush with velvety tannins. Bottom line delicious.

Thanks to Reid for all his time today and hosting such a great bottle tasting and 2017 tank tasting. Reid is salt of the earth, a humble Winemaker and gentleman. This is their Flagship wine " "Old Bastard." The fruits are very ruby and elegant as well as smooth as all get out. Another one to cellar and have it in 3, 7 and 10 years. From the 135 year old vines featured in the photo.

Boom. It's been a while. Great stuff for 120yr old vines. Inky blackberry syrup, good acidity, balanced oak.

Better than usual, less new oak (35%)

Needs more time. Rating reflection should improve

Young but had a great future.

The rare Aussie wine that "goes upward" on the finish instead of going away. Fantastic stuffing and depth
