Kaefferkopf
Grand Cru d'Alsace Riesling
Hazy and almost color of wet hay, this did not present as a very attractive wine. But looks, as we all know, can often be deceiving. In fact, this was a gift for the senses! On the nose, I detected the presence of brettanomyces but it was kept well in check. The real story was the bruised apple, Bosc pear, lemon citrus, decaying flowers, wet stone, and spices. I didn’t want to stop smelling my glass! On the palate, slightly over ripened Pome fruits, lemons, earth and spices. Super dry. High acid. Long, long finish. What a wine! This was a killer pairing with scallops & white fish ceviche accompanied with roasted Brussels sprouts & crispy leeks. Drinking at or near peak but should last for years.
