Monthly WTF wine group night. Our theme was American oak vs French oak. All wines tasted blind. We started off with two bottles of bubbly and finished with two non-themed reds.
This won the most unique aromatics of the night! Ben was spot on when he mentioned he smelled sweet potato! Traditional WA/OR Syrah notes of funk, olive and bacon with black pepper spice. Mainly juicy black cherries and older baked rhubarb were the fruits I was picking up. Fun wine. Thanks @Jack Thompson

Really interesting and good wine. On opening it has red fruit and a decidedly sour note. But not unpleasantly so. Some rusticity here but not barnyardy. Hard to pin down but maybe it will reveal itself some more over the night. It added layers after it was decanted for a few hours. The fruit became sweeter a bit, and the nose became more floral. Had a meaty edge to it.

Apr 28th, 2018Another excellent vintage of this Washington State Tempranillo! Deep ruby core with a garnet rim. Intense aromas of black raspberry, dried herbs, baking spices and graphite . Black raspberry/cherry fruit on the palate with notes of beef jerky, orange zest, baking spices and dried herbs. Long and earthy finish. Medium-plus body and quite fruit forward and savory. Nicely concentrated with fine grained tannins. This bottle was perfectly aged.

Black raspberry and Boysenberry fruit with hints of leather, tomato and tar. Long finish with refined and silky tannins. Long and powerful with beautiful balance. Worth every penny. Thank you Keith S for serving this one. Revisited in September 2024. Still outstanding!

Flavors of ripe blueberries, Earth with a touch of black pepper. Long finish. Tempranillo from Eastern Washington is not just an experiment. They are Making some great expressions of the varietal. Revisited in May 2020. Still terrific. Well balanced and more Old World organics are showing through. Revisited again in November 2020. Just awesome! Revisited again in December 2021. Fantastic!

Jun 2nd, 2019100% Tempranillo. Unusual to find this varietal in Washington State, but it is really terrific. Ripe Dark cherries, plums and currents. Smokey spices, mushroom and licorice notes. Full bodied but elegant. Tannins are soft and polished. A great surprise.
