Good Pinot, and much better overall than CA/OR Pinots in the same price range. New Zealand just works for me.

On first twist of the cap this wine is throwing so much oaky smokey I didn't even want to smell it anymore. Given 15 minutes, it begins to open up to some darker ripe cherry and in the overwhelming smoke I find a granitic quality. Taste comes across somehow a little flat, even though there is good acidity. Vanilla, cherry, wet soily earth. There is indeed something here, but someone oaked it to oblivion (surprisingly it isn't 100% new French) and it makes me sad. The wine guy at the store compared it to Oregon pinots and now I want to slap him. Happy chugging.
