Silky smooth refined bubbles with a creamy texture. This is by far the most interesting of the sparkling wines of Northern California that I’ve had in many years....

Nov 13th, 2020A socially distanced night catching up with friends while enjoying some fun wines. Posting what I was able to get pics of!
@Delectable Wine : This is the new Ovation Brut by Joseph Phelps, from their Freestone Vineyard in Sonoma Coast.
This is a new project for Phelps, but has been in the making for a long time. 80/20 chard/pinot. With a goal of single vintage, single site expression, this debut was very impressive. Tasting blind, I think I would have gone to champagne and picked a big name grower. It’s racy and bright up front showing lots of crisp Granny Smith apples, wet rock, citrus, powdered lemon squares and apricots. We debated whether it was zero dosage but you get a kiss of sweetness at the finish. Obviously best enjoyed with a few more years in the cellar, it’s a fun project to follow. Thanks @Weston Eidson
