Feb 14th, 2021A dark plum color with light purple undertones and a wide brim. A highly expressive nose featuring black cherries and pomegranates up front, with customary Napa Cab oak and dark chocolate batting cleanup. A supposed little, little brother of Insignia, this is a well structured Cab that strives to be above the norm but it never quite reaches those heights.
Big and bold but not huge and flabby. This is definitely not a mess. Slightly muscular in nature, it does pack a punch with ripe fruit and hearty tannins. Medium bodied and medium acidity and that’s really the issue, it’s medium everything. Imagine a mild Cabernet Sauvignon. It stays so far away from the typical Napa hugeness and homogeneity that it goes too far in that direction. Nice dark fruit on the palate joined by coffee and spice. A nice wine, a nice pour but missing a little razzle dazzle.
