John Duval Wines
Plexus Barossa Valley Shiraz Blend
Barossa Valley, Barossa, South Australia, Australia

Medium to full crimson in colour. I love GSM - or as this wine is SGM with Shiraz predominant. Spicy Tarry red berry aromas. All the varieties blend well here but overall it is very Barossa. John Duval, the winemaker, was once Penfolds Chief Winemaker from 1986 to 2002. There have only been 4 Penfolds Grange winemakers - Max Schubert (creator in 1951), Don Ditter, John Duval and now Peter Gago the current Chief Winemaker since 2002. A wine that goes well with food or has the substance to do equally well on its own.

John's wines start soft, femme and then deepen & broaden on the palate. The mixed fruit berries were warm on the palate, beautiful soft red florals with an array of medium intensity of spices. With John @ Artisans of Barossa!

For those of you that have tried this kind of blend from Rhone and didn't like it because it seemed funky, didn't seem not ripe enough or showed too much minerality, this one might be for you. This 15 blend is far more tropical, delicate and floral. This is just releasing and you should be able to find it soon in the states. Green melons green & red apple, citrus, white peach, white florals, fruit blossoms with very fine and understated minerals. The acidity is brilliant and has a very polished finish. John Duval was the Winemaker at Penfold's for 29 years and has made his own private label wines for several years. Tasted with John at Artisans of Barossa.

Dark core with almost garnet tinged rim. White pepper, smoke and charcoal. Meaty. Plum, blackberry and rocky earth. Suede-feeling palate. Nice finish. Damn good Aussie.

May 29th, 2020Wow that’s one awesome 🍷. Hope I can buy again soon. The wine shows soaring aromas and rich flavors of blackberry, blueberries, black raspberry, violets, black plums, black cherry, and spring flowers along with hints of very dark chocolate and toasted vanilla. It has a dark color, dense fruit components, balanced acidity, complex minerality, sweet tannins, a smooth soft texture and an extended and layered seemingly endless finish. $43.50
