Vaillons Chablis 1er Cru Chardonnay

Even more modern than previous vintages. Amazing combination of pineapple and lemon rind with super high acid

Lots of energy and bouncy bright fruit. Shows a lot of damp earth, candied fruit, mushrooms. Hefty mid-palate and forward momentum but feels slightly confused. Still delicious and great value

Apr 3rd, 2015A favorite- fuller, more sancerre/cat pissy w the tics of age, but really emerges as a mineral zelig as it drinks. Plus, for some reason, completely undervalued (about 26$)

First ever Chablis Premier Cru! Awesome juice. Was the first Chablis I've had that has a noticeable oak influence in terms of flavor and aroma rather than just body added by a bit of neutral oak (although I'd guess that this is still mostly neutral oak with a tiny percentage of new oak that adds the extra richness here). Starfruit, Meyer lemon, ripe yellow apples, crushed chalk and saline, accented by a bit of crème fraîche and Parmigiano cheese rind, plus a subtle crème brûlée and baking spice note. Malo gives a bit of richness and complexity to the nose, which somewhat belies the focus and purity of minerality and fruit that drives the palate. Medium bodied with rich texture yet still lean and focused with mouthwatering acidity. Simultaneous richness and freshness. Kind of a wine of juxtapositions in that way I suppose, and I really like it. I'd love to try this with some sort of creamy seafood dish. Great QPR too, I got this for under $30 and it provided a really pleasing white Burgundy experience.
