JC Cellars
Caldwell Vineyard Syrah
Dark red, turning to ruby and a hint of orange at the rim. Impressive nose with deep, slightly jammy blackberry and black cherry fruit, with delicate spices and a hint of lavender and thyme, intensifying with swirling. Full-bodied with loads of black fruits and spices, and balancing acidity that makes the high alcohol go unnoticed. Long, spicy finish with well-integrated tannin. This has the elegance of a good Cote -Rotie, but with a more upfront fruit character that makes it distinctively Californian. Very good value. 2006 vintage. 15% abv. 35 euro (about 39 $).

Sep 26th, 2016Had very low expectations after the last bottle had a dried out fork but this was a beautiful wine still holding its structure, tannins, and loads of fruit. Very well balanced and stood up to a hearty meal.
