This 2015 is actually quite similar to the ‘14. Both are Diamond Mtn (as opposed to Howell in ‘13) and both were 95pointers I believe.

Hint of mint and dirt on the nose. Get that with many diamond Mtn wine. Blackberries, bay leaf, cassis and bing cherries on the palate. Very structured. Tannic. Drink the proprietary first.

Steve Distler, owner of Arnyca, is doing consulting for a few small labels out in Napa. As I've posted before, his Arnyca cab franc is my favorite out of Napa Valley. He was the former GM at O'Brien Estate and was able to add them to his portfolio, along with Cobden Wini (winemaker for Arnyca and winemaker at O'Brien), Frias Family and Jack Winery. Killer line-up of small production stuff. We hosted him for a wine dinner and all of it was stellar.

Jack Winery utilizes the talents of Aonair winemaker Grant Long Jr. Jack was started by Vernon Wells (former MLB player) and Chris Ianetta (current MLB player). This '14 cab is from Diamond mountain and drinking well at a young age. Not as monstrous as young Howell Mountain cabs. Red and black fruit dominant with a decent amount of espresso and pepper. Needs to rest for a few years but has very good potential to be extremely good.

Spicy, dark restrained fruit. Lacking complexity and depth for a higher score Had expected more.

Wow. Best wine of the year 😁! An elixer to lift you into outer orbit! Everything is intense. Fine grained tannins soaked in oak spice carried this dark, dark dry concentrated, dense juice on an exhilarating journey from the first touch to the long lasting finish final. Evolving complexity that started with varying layers fresh pipe tobacco and dark chocolate evolving to cigar box, earthy lead pencil minerals, and worn leather. Why is it that these mind blowing wines never have quite 750 ml in their bottles 🤔

OMG. This wine was awesome!!! Incredible. The upfront spiciness, the dark fruit infused with earth on the mid palet and this addictive finish that makes you crave for more. Fantastic!!!

BIG Napa Cab. Decanted for a few hours. Nice, but needs more resting time to really shine.

Library tasting at Imoto in Dallas. Boutique producer out of Napa. Really fantastic wines. Was able to taste 2012 through 2016. An added bonus of 2017 production was provided. Big Napa cabs that are age worthy. My favorite for the night was the 2013. The 2016 was drinkable now, but I will enjoy drinking this one again in a few years. If you see this wine you should try it. Oh and their Sonoma Pinot was also wonderful — a full body Pinot with really nice finish.
