A deep, cloudy orange color in the glass, the 2020 Catarrato Praruar opens with an airy blend of dried apricots, crushed apples and ground ginger. It’s soft-textured and round, with ripe orchard fruits and a cascade of liquid inner florals that coats the palate with youthful tension. The 2020 tapers off wonderfully fresh, tactile and firm, leaving the mouth watering as hints of candied citrus and sour melon resolve on the close. This is a fantastic vintage of Praruar that can be easily enjoyed by fans of orange wines. (Eric Guido, Vinous, June 2024)

Beautiful and unique wine that’s been a real change compared to my recent tries. The unfiltered amber hue is striking in the glass, folding into pinks and reds. Candied ginger and nectarine peel mash together in a winter cocktail like profile, but are held together nicely with brown sugar, some malic flavors, and a soft floral touch. Cacao and tropical notes reach out in nice undertones. Structure is great for 6 years old. Evolved slowly with each sip.

Excellent with Asian flavors.

Good luck pulling your attention away from the 2017 Catarratto Praruar. All it takes is one tilt of the golden-amber-colored nectar in your glass, and its exotic bouquet of sugar-dusted ginger, dried nectarines, crushed green apple, geranium and mint creates a unique yet captivating display. This is powerful and deeply textural, with a pretty inner sweetness balanced by brisk acids and tart orchard fruits, complemented by savory brown spice and a mind-bending addition of cocoa toward the close. For all of its density, the Praruar turns squeaky-clean through the finale, yet still full of lively energy, resonating on floral-tinged peaches and pears. Frankly, this is probably the most interesting interpretation of Catarratto that I’ve ever experienced; but be aware that it is unabashedly an orange-style wine, which won’t appeal to all palates. Goldfish-colored. Dried apricot, toasted hazelnut skin, castelvetrano olive brine, clay, white flowers. A little hint of earthy funk. Just the right amount of tannin.

Amber beauty. Orange blossom and orange marmalade, crushed apricot pits, rose petals, Sauternes, caramel and faint cocoa... sweetly perfumed but bone dry, tannic with a rich mouthcoating texture. Keeps changing with air.

Extraordinary white rose-like characteristics due to prolonged skin contact. Love it.

Little tight, a little tannic to. Fun nose, dried citrus and ginger. Canned fruit action. Interested to see how the tannins evolve with TIB

A striking amber color. Nose is full of apricots with a touch of barnyard funk. Marmalade and stone fruits on the palate.
