Hunnicutt
Brinkman Block Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon
Thank you @Jason and Jennie / amazing wine and Kirk Venge is making delicious wine - RP scored this 97 and I was just not willing to go that far but one of the best Napa cabs in awhile for me - this was consumed during the WNH Sunday virtual zoom tasting and to share virtually with Jason and Jennie was even more amazing - wine had legs forever - deep ruby color - smell of dark red cherries and raspberries and coco - taste and finish incredible - fruit forward delicious smooth - all of the above help create big bold beautiful in a bottle and left me with a huge smile

Aug 12th, 2020They call this bottling their “Brinkman Block.” However, it is Beckstoffer George III fruit. If they put BGIII on the label, they would pay Beckstoffer more for the fruit. Beckstoffer fruit is always in such demand, they have very firm pricing regulations and rules.
I should note that this had just gone into bottle a few days before we tasted. The bottle we bought did not even receive its foil cap yet.
On the nose, fresh, floral fruits. Ripe; blackberries, dark cherries, blueberries, dark cherries, black raspberries, black plum, vanilla, cinnamon stick, some clove & nutmeg, caramel, dry rocks, underbrush, dark spice, steeped tea, leather, saddle-wood, just a hint of green pepper, limestone volcanic minerals and red & dark fresh & withering florals.
The body is full, Rich with firm, dark, tarry grainy tannins. Ripe; blackberries, dark cherries, blueberries, dark cherries, black raspberries, black plum, vanilla, cinnamon stick, some clove & nutmeg, caramel, dry rocks, underbrush, dark spice, steeped tea, leather, saddle-wood, fresh tobacco with ash, limestone volcanic minerals and red & dark fresh & withering florals. The acidity is beautiful. The long finish is dark, loaded with spice and fine tannins that is persistent for minutes. This one will amaze after 10 years in bottle. I look forward to enjoying mine then.
Photos of; Hunnicutt, cellar entrance, their stainless steel tanks (all mid size to vinify separately smaller lots of fruit), and a half & half shot of their patio and tasting room.

1 person found it helpfulFeb 10th, 2018This is awesome. Spice, fruit, length, complexity...just awesome. Drinking so well. Much more approachable than the '14 935 we had. I never had this side by side with the '13 935 but i might give it to the 935 for the power and tannin. Hunnicutt does such a good job with the beckstoffer george iii vineyard. Robert parker 96

Great tasting last night of wines below with @Justin Stephens and @Andrew Bohi over Zoom with a great group of friends including @James K. We missed @Vanessa and @J Greene.
It seemed everyone had a different favorite which speaks well to the quality and consistency from Hunnicutt. My WoTN was the Brinkman.
Dinner at Our Paladar in Rochester, MN. If you’re in the area or visiting, you have to check it out! Food and people are amazing!

This wine is so great. I could just smell the nose all night. Dark fruit, florals and perfume. The palate is depth and complexity - so impressive. This vintage isn’t at the level of the ‘13, ‘15, or ‘16s, but that’s pretty tough company. Still, solid 94. @James K super glad you joined up!! You’re gonna be thrilled with these.

Mar 3rd, 2024Trying some 2019s with a killer steak tonight to see where they are starting. This is really pretty floral, licorice, and black fruit. It also has great structure. Great acidity and tannins. Drinking really well now but should be a knockout in a few years!
