Tuesday the 26th of January was Australia Day and a public holiday. What better way to celebrate than Australia’s best fizz Arras Grand Vintage from Tasmania. Quite light lemon in colour. Very citrussy and mineral on the nose. 7 years on Lees showing in the complexity of the palate which still shows tension and refreshment. See previous notes for the 2007 which was slightly better and Champion Wine of the Royal Brisbane Show.

Comprehensive notes from 24 weeks ago still apply. Definitely Australia’s best sparkling I think, from Tasmania. Straw and hay aromas with fresh bread. With over 7 years on lees giving this quality and complexity if it was French you would be paying a couple of $100. Champion wine of the Brisbane Wine Show in 2016.

Drank this last Sunday for Mother’s Day. Arras is probably Australia’s best Sparkling producer. Of recent years certainly the most awarded. A few years ago this 2007 won Best Sparkling at the Royal Queensland Wine Show and then the Trophy for Champion Wine of the Show! The wine itself is mid Lemon in colour - low on fizz - we drank this from Burgundy glasses. Bakery aromas with Lemon Curd. 78% Chardonnay, 22% Pinot Noir. The lemon/citrus flavours derived from the Chardonnay. The following day Sherbet, Honeycomb and Quince. 7 years on Lees giving a wonderful complexity and ridiculous value at only $60. I don’t know how Ed Carr can do it.

Amazingly delicate and elegant following the Heidsieck and the fact that it spent 7 years in Tirage. This wine was not only the Champion Sparkling of the Brisbane Wine Show but the overall Champion Wine of the Show. Bravo Ed Carr.

17.5/20 (93/100) Аромат лимона, сливочной карамели, мёда и сдобы. Высокая кислотность. Весьма неплохо.

Funny that the vintage is less good than the NV. Hint of wood... Is there a sweet note? Works with a chanterelle toast, though.

Lakris, rostad lök, blöt grönska, mandel, tropisk frukt. Komplex, medel+ syra, kanske något för tydlig beska. intressant

A cracking Aussie sparkling for one of the best. Fine mouse, delicate nose of apples and pear. Lovely stuff.

A lovely sparkling from Tassie. A fine bead, delicate restrained nose and graceful yet powerful palate. Ten years young.
