A dense, concentrated glass of ripe stewed red plums and cassis liqueur. Green peppercorns, $$$$ oak, sweet tobacco. 2011's are my favorite expressions of these big guns. There's a vibrancy in the acid that contrasts its weight and heat, bringing some personality that weightier vintages tend to lack.

Finished this puppy while finishing my taxes. Ended up with a hefty refund that may require spend in Napa... Fantastic wine considering the vintage. Dark, full body, fruit forward with medium finish. Blueberries, cherries, cassis. Tannins are mild but could stand a few more years.
