Hospices de Beaune
Cuvée Guigone de Salins Beaune 1er Cru Pinot Noir
Beaune, Côte de Beaune, Burgundy, France

See previous Delectable notes for this Cuvee. Quite ripe and new world in this 2015 vintage. This is my last bottle of an original 6. This wine made by Australian, Jane Eyre who has worked in Burgundy for almost 25 years. The news earlier this year is that Jane will take over as winemaker at Domaine du Comte Armand in Pommard - an Estate owned by the Comte Armand family since 1828. Congratulations to Jane and we wish her every success.

Hospices de Beaune Cuvées are aged (raised) by various Negociants, in this case the highly accredited Australian winemaker, Jane Eyre. The nose is a little closed initially. Might have been opened a little early in its drinking window. The palate shows ripe red fruits (cherry) reflecting the warmer vintage. See previous Delectable note. The following night a peppery note. Luckily I have 3 left. Hopefully this will open up in the next few years and gain some complexity. Had my 3rd last bottle on 27/7/25. Crimson with a tawny rim. A rich and flavoursome palate of medium plus intensity. No new oak. 20% whole bunch fermentation. A hint of strawberry jam. As said previously it is more new World than old World.

Took an hour+ to open up. Continues to evolve. This is lovely. Very well balanced acidity and puckering tannins throughout. I’m 90 minutes in and think the fruit may still be holding out. Not dull though, the fruit is still bright for a 16 year old. As it is there is boysenberry and raspberry but not delicate. Good thing as the fruit stands up to the acidity and tannins well.
Like the fruit, the nose remains subdued 90 mins in. There’s strawberry, a little mushroom, and clove.
In my Burgundy ignorance, I may be underscoring here. Really enjoying this.
