Dark ruby. Nose of plum and red licorice @. Medium full palate echoes the nose with the licorice turning more black and adding a touch of vanilla and a bit of heat (14.5% abv… aerator recommended to alleviate that). Fine tannins on the finish and medium acidity throughout. Eight bucks gets you a classic intro to California Zinfandel and extra money in your pocket to spend elsewhere. Upgrade your burgers. Airing it out and a day in the wine fridge helped. Heady blackberry pie filling nose, syrupy mouthfeel from that high alcohol, coffee and dark chocolate flavors mid-palate. There’s less of that expected Zin spice but enough acidity to keep things interesting. Definitely recommended for ~$9 at Total Wine if Zin is your thing.

Feb 16th, 2021Went great with nachos, minus any meat and beans, mainly salsa, cheese, pisco de gallo, sour cream, and guacamole.
