Hermann J. Wiemer
Magdalena Vineyard Riesling
Deep gold color in the glass. The aromatics were a bit of a rollercoaster…when still, it was filled with ripe honeycrisp apple and cinnamon dusted pear, but when you agitated it and tried to open it up, it yielded more unique notes like a touch of petrol and honeysuckle. The acidity on the palate was faint but enough to snap to prevent it from being too rounded. Rich in profile without being sweet, and plenty of tart spiced apple crisp on the finish. This expression is likely one best enjoyed younger due to the already somewhat round palate, but it sure is solid now with plenty of time to enjoy.

May 25th, 2021World-class. I could use a bit more acidity.

May 15th, 2021More rich than the 2018 dry Riesling. I enjoyed this, but it didn’t knock my socks off.

Nov 29th, 2020A great example of a more sheltered, slightly warmer site on Lake Seneca, the Hermann J. Wiemer Magdalena Vineyard Riesling is rounder and fleshier as compared with other estate parcels. Pronounced aromas drenched in forest honey, apricots, white flowers and baking spice waft from the glass. On the palate, its quite lush, with mouth-coating glycerine, stone fruit and an engraved acid backbone that seems typical of Finger Lakes wine. A suggestion of minerality ushers this wine to a lingering close. 12.5% ABV
