I’ve been wanting to open this for a while and when I saw Keith’s Cayuse, I wanted to open this next to it and see how it compared.
Consistent with Herman Story style, this is large and in charge. However, the extended aging and the vessels in which this was aged gave this some gorgeous lift and a fantastic amount of layers. Whole cluster berries were in barrel for 426 days...so unique. Powered through two days easily, and is certainly best closer to cellar temp. Dark ruby in the glass with aromatics of baking spice, violets, potpourri, peppered cherry jerky, rhubarb tart and red licorice. There is a whole cluster flair to this...it’s not quite stemmy or green, but there is a crunch to it that I often get with whole cluster wines. On the palate it shows red plum, peppercorn, candied black cherries and cherry liqueur. Wonderful spicy finish. Best Herman Story wine I’ve had.
