The latest release of the iconic Mount Edelstone. Quite contained on the nose - more is promised - rated as an exceptional vintage and will cellar for 30+ years. A lovely broad palate showing sweet red and black fruits, sage and black pepper. - medium plus intensity. finishing with the trademark Edelstone seamless tannins.

Mount Edelstone is Stephen’s favourite Henschke vineyard - planted in 1912 by Colin Angas and sold to Cyril Henschke in 1974. I have 7 vintages of Mt Edelstone in my home cellar but somehow missed the 2013 so I bought a bottle -released from the Henschke museum. This was absolutely delicious and early in its drinking window is to 2045+. Chosen for the masterclass to taste beside the current release 2019 as they were both from drought years. A beautiful fragrant perfume. Black pepper, sage, spice and plum pudding. First released at 6 years of age. A brilliant wine. Particularly loved by my wife Barb.

When this gets played as an option wine it makes people really think. A great pull from one of our V20 casual employees.
A great showing and drinking superbly.

Deep Ruby in colour. My last bottle of 6 originally bought. The earlier SO2 from previous bottles have finally diminished. Some stalky raspberry notes with a nuances of coffee. On the medium bodied palate red and black fruits with raspberry to the fore. Easy power. The hallmark of Edelstone is and has always been its fluid silky tannins - the product of vines over 100 years old planted in 1912. Has become expensive in recent years but compared to Hill of Grace good QPR.

It needed to breath a while
Delicate nose mainly still on the primary notes with fruit and flowers
Palate will tell u all about the aristocracy of the liquid in the bottle
Long and delicious
Young yes, but not a baby murder. 🤦‍♂️😜👌🏽

The classic Eden valley Shiraz. Black currants and cassis, sage, mint, licorice, crushed stone and gravel? Grassy. Spicy and savory. Full body, medium plus staining and concentration.

One of the best Australian red I have drunk so far
Extremely elegant, fruit driven, but not overripe fruits.
Wonderful tannin and incredible persistence of flavour.
Still fresh and more complexity but just whispered in a European way.
20/30 years of life ahead

This is the 6th of an original 6 and from the first bottle the tasting notes have been consistent. This wine has a weird vegetal nose. I have described as H2S in previous notes. This off putting note does not come through on the palate which exhibits ripe fruits with raspberry to the fore. Finishing off with trademark silky tannins. As a coincidence of timing it's illustrious elder brother Hill of Grace - the 2012 vintage was just judged Wine of the Year by Australia's leading wine scribe James Halliday. Well done to Henschke.
