Not bad at all especially considering the price. Nice nose. Peppery with minor hints of anise

I received this bottle in mystery case from Wente. The price was right for the case, but I was dismayed to see the bottles which arrived. Nearly no Wente labels, but mostly other brands which must be owned by Wente family? Mostly screw caps in the case. So, now for the tasting.... it actually smells pretty good. Of smoky dark cherries and heat. Transparent burgundy color in the glass with not much leg action. Low in alcohol for CA wine at 13.5%. Bright acidity w pretty noticeable tannins for a merlot. Decent, but not great.
