Did you indulge for #MalbecWorldDay yesterday? Naturally Mr Spittoon and I had a wee splurge once the bub was in bed.

We cracked into this Western Australia Hayshed Hill 2017 Malbec from Margaret River. This bottle was in my sample 2020 Chef & the Cellar Calendar Case from Wine Selectors.

Each year Wine Selectors releases a ‘calendar collection’ case..This is a collection of 12 wines and a calendar – each month highlights one of the wines matched with a tasty recipe from the winery’s restaurant.

This Hayshed Hill Malbec is paired with Mike Mcallister’s Grilled Chermoula Lamb - oh boy it looks good!

We unfortunately didn’t have the ingredients on hand to make the recipe however Mr Spittoon got his chef hat on and made a scrumptious spicy sausage paella 🥘 to go with the Malbec and it went down an absolute treat with the wine last night 👌

Here are my notes 📝 on the wine:

It’s a gorgeous red purple magenta colour in the glass. We popped it in the decanter about 30 mins prior to drinking and it just looked so beautiful being poured in. On the nose it makes me think of spiced plum, blueberry and raspberry pie dusted with vanilla. While in the mouth those juicy berry fruits flow through with a nice depth, silky texture and cocoa infused finish. Yum!

This wine was sent to me as a sample, I was under no obligation to post about it.

All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy!

Fine. First Aussie Malbec I've tried. Pretty good, but not as smooth as Argentinian varieties. Bought on Margaret River tour.
