Harney Lane
Lizzy James Vineyard Old Vine Zinfandel

v2012. Loads of bright, beguiling raspberry, blackberry and spice. Oak is noticeable but not intrusive. Excellent with food.

A robust berry aroma is enticing and tempting. I savored every sip. I paired this delicious port of the Ol’vine with a confectionery milk chocolate or White chocolate Orange (available at your grocer) during the Christmas holiday. Thanks dear Nick.

This single-vineyard Zin is very dark in the glass, and its complex nose offers aromas of brambly black fruit, black pepper, anise, allspice, caramel and sweet tobacco. Yeah, it really puts on a show. The palate is a wonderful mix of ripe fruit and savory notes, with the latter taking the lead. Tannins are firm, not toothy, and the finish is long and satisfying.

This Zinfandel, from vines planted in 1904, is forest-dark with brambly, black fruit and tons of supporting characters. The nose emits all that you may dream would accompany a wine made from 114-year-old vines. There is spice, there is tobacco, there is tar. Leather, dirt and oil also appear. The palate is similarly dark, but surprisingly youthful and perfumed. The acidity rips, the tannins roar and the wine does its duty on marbled beef.
