Grgich Hills Estate
Napa Valley Zinfandel
High alcohol but still well balanced. Nice elderberry, bramble, plum fruit, hint of vanilla and baking spice. Very elegant, but I'd have liked as bit more acidity.

May 3rd, 2019A bit (2%) of Petite Sirah is added to enhance the wines complexity. Dark, almost black with flavorful aromas of berry fruits and zingy spices. On the palate blackberry and cherry flavors with pepper spice and a touch of honey. Soft tannins, drying on the finish ending with some oak. Nice!

Nov 3rd, 2017Monthly WTF wine group meet up. No true theme this month. Some wines tasted blind.
Tasted blind. Surprised this was a Zin...and only a few years old. Light in color. Not jammy or peppery. Medium acidity. Red, blue and black ripe fruits and cedar. Surprised it was 15.5 too. Also an old graham cracker note on the finish. Old school Zin. I called it older Spanish Tempranillo. Thanks @Jack Thompson

It's the spice that hits your nose first—aromas of cracked black pepper, mesquite and charred cedar glide above denser notes of sun-warmed blackberries and ripe Italian plums. It's not as lush on the palate as some Napa Zins. Like all of the wines from Grgich Hills, the 2012 shows a modicum of restraint, in a variety that is built for decadence. Rather, the alcohol is neatly tucked behind a wall of high acidity and firm tannins. The finish is decidedly herbal and green, it's a wine willbenefit from time in the cellar. 15.5% ABV | Sample

Nov 25th, 2017Smooth as you drink and slightly bitter at the end. Great for paring with red meats, cleanses your palet. Enjoyed best at a slightly lower room temperature.
