Small group for this month's WTF wine meet up, so why not hit up Fort Worth's best BYOB?
I brought this having visited Girard once or twice. Girard has some nice value wines, but their appellation series takes it up a notch quite a bit, actually. So much more complexity and balance. This Oakville is a baby, so the score is a bit reflective of potential. Lots of Classic Oakville notes here with beautiful lavender, blueberries and cedar on the nose. Powerful aromatics. Needs a healthy decant to shed its gripping tannins and dominant tart blackberry/blueberry notes. Hit its stride after 2 hours and revealed some smoked meat, currant and toasted oak. Give it some cellar time.
