Giacomo Borgogno & Figli
Fossati Barolo Nebbiolo
Ruby/ brick in color with medium intensity.
Red fruits on the nose with light oak, tobacco and chocolate notes.
Medium bodied with medium acidity.
Dry on the palate with cherries, plums, currants, light wood, spices, coffee, earth, dark chocolates, tobacco leaf, herbs and black pepper.
Medium plus on the finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.
What a delicious Barolo. Elegant and rich. Complex and interesting. Well balanced with a nice mouthfeel.
The 2019 vintage in Barolo was excellent. This Single Vineyard is particularly unique for the vintage as it is already very approachable.
Will continue to age nicely in the next 10 to 20 years. Would be nice to revisit it in 7 years.
Easy drinking right out of the bottle, and good by itself as a sipping wine.
100% Nebbiolo grapes were aged in large Slavonian oak barrels for 4 years.
14.5% alcohol by volume.
92 points.
$120.

Not in prime condition as the fruit was a touch maderised. Still sported some cherries, menthol, and tar on the nose. High tannins and acidity. Not much complexity on the palate, which is probably due to bottle condition. Disappointing bottle.

Jun 18th, 2022Very simple and austere ... some notes of cherry licorice and violets, smoke and cured meat. Not thrilling and requires a long decant to get to the high notes.
