It’s the season for bubbles! Well, to be honest, I think Champagne is for any day at any time. It’s my drink of choice that never fails to put a smile on my face.

I was recently sent this bottle of Champagne Duperrey Premier Cru Brut from the team at Dan Murphy’s to try. It retails at only $40 which makes it very affordable for a Champagne. Remember that you can only call a sparkling wine ‘champagne’ if it comes from the Champagne region in France.

Here are a few tidbits about this bubbly:

The grapes are sourced from Champagne House, G.H. Martel which is owned by the Rapeneau family
It’s made up of 48% Chardonnay, 29% Pinot Meunier and 23% Pinot Noir
Aged on yeast lees for 2.5 years
It’s named after French explorer Louis Isidore Duperrey (1786-1865) who sailed across Australia’s Southern Ocean in 1823 while circumnavigating the globe (1822-1825)
It picked up a silver medal at the Melbourne International Wine Competition this year
So what did this champagne loving lady think of it?

In the glass, it’s a pretty sandy yellow shade with plentiful aromas rising from the glass of citrus, yeast, and stonefruits (think nectarines and peach). In the mouth, it’s very flavoursome with lemon crackers and crunchy apples dominating for me. At $40 it’s pretty darn gluggable.

All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy!
