Crazy levels of pleasure here. Apricot. apple blossom honey, and honeydew melon. Tea leaf. Camellia. Lychee kaleidoscope. So long and zippy, with some carrot and ginger spice. Luscious, silky texture.

Not a great vintage at Fritz Haag, but that doesn’t mean you don’t still get excellent wine. I’ve heard FH vintages of this era incorporate a lot of very young replanted vines. Perhaps that’s the issue. At 28 years there’s not much sweetness left, but, there’s sufficient delicacy, finesse, and nuance, to pull it through precisely with conviction.

Delicious. Not too sweet, just pristine balance. Nose is so intriguing; pear tart, buckwheat tea, husk cherries. Palate has kiwi, creme patissiere, and yellow fruits. Just entering its prime; plenty of primary fruits complicated with wonderful savory pastry notes.

A fascinating nose mingles sea breeze, intimations of wet stone, and smoky struck flint with high-toned nut extracts, ripe nectarine and mango. The lusciously fruited, creamy, almost weightless palate leads into a sensationally sustained, at once soothing and stimulating finish that left my salivary glands palpitating and that, for all of its sheer richness, not to mention high residual sugar, displays a fascinating array of stony, smoky and saline mineral nuances. En magnum. Distinctly finer in this format than in bottle.

Still very youthfull with plenty of ripe stonefruits. It is balanced wine but I could have used a tad more backbone from acidity.
