1997 Francois Villard Saint Joseph - Light bodied, medium acid, med(-) tannins and alcohol. Aromas of pu-erh tea, black cherry and white pepper. Lightly pronounced flavors of peppercorns, cured meats, earth and dried plum. A difficult vintage for N.Rhone, yet the wine has held up well- good acid, feminine texture and all around balanced. Drink now.

Pretty after a bit of air.

Quite chunky. But too much chocolate/stewed fruit for me, compared to other St Jo's in a line up. I crave the violet/pepper end of the spectrum.

Good, tasty, bit one-dimensional, not as much herb and funk as I'd prefer.

Spice box, leather, cedar, truffle. Bright, vinous, slightly bitter. Med length

Peppery, dark fruit, a bit charcoal, velvety tanins !!
