I was recently cleaning out the cellar and put aside a pile of ‘drink now’ wines. This Fish 🐠 Tail Wines 2011 Whitebait Chenin Blanc from the #swanvalley was one of them (the back label recommended to age for up to 5 years).

Fish Tail closed down 2-3 years ago and at the time I think we grabbed a case of this for something like $50. Crazy cheap. I initially opened this bottle to put in a recipe I needed a cup of white wine for, expecting it’d be long past it’s due date. However Mr. Spittoon in his normal fashion, glugged back a mouthful and proclaimed it was alright. So I gave it a go and was quite surprised!

Golden shade on the eye with toasty, ripe rich fruits and a whiff of lanolin on the nose. The palate is unexpectedly fresh and fruity with a hint of sweetness. I now wish we’d kept a few of these, I do love my aged Chenin. Very interesting!

All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy!
