Eagle Peak California Merlot

Here is my weekly #MerlotThursday...

Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.

Fruity on the nose with black currants, cherries, blueberries, wood, vanilla, cloves, spices, earth and black pepper.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity and nice legs.

Dry on the palate with cherries, cranberries, raspberries, wood, spices, vanilla, earth, light vegetables and peppercorn.

Medium finish with soft tannins and tangy pomegranates.

This is an average Merlot from California. Drinkable and simple. Inexpensive with a tangy ending.
Nothing special, but a good everyday wine that will pair nicely with food.

Good right out of the bottle, and better while fresh (Was better last year).

I paired it with soft and hard cheeses.

13.5% alcohol by volume.

Smooth and jammy. A consistently tasty product. Not a hint of metallic. Tried again after 15 years and was definitely impressed.

Surprisingly fruity and flavorful for a California Merlot. They're usually more blunt. I like it.

Full, a bit sweet, big favours of plum and cherry. Nice wine, but needs to be paired with something equally as full, fatty or flavourful. Good value at $11.95 at LCBO

Great. Especially for a wine I can get of sale for $4/bottle. Easy to drink.

@FetzerWine 2015 Eagle Peak Merlot ($10): Medium-bodied, supple, and streamlined—a round texture gives way to upfront flavors of purple stone fruit and black cherry, with trailing hints of mocha and toffee. There’s a dash of undergrowth on the finish. This is a nice bottle to pair with red sauce dishes, pizza night, a big bowl of chili (and cornbread for the win), or grilled burgers (beef or portobello).
