Familia Castaño
Mediterranean Monastrell

Great QPRs part 2: has been so consistent over the years, & at 8$ makes me wonder how the heck they can produce it (the price hasn’t budged too much over a decade). An Eric Solomon special. Dark blackberries & cassis notes, ripe but in check. Has outshone many a wine costing 3x at gatherings.

Busy, but decent label. Screw-top. Dark bruised plum color in the glass. Aroma is musky with some tropical spices in the mix. Also prunes and fresh wine must in the winery. Flavors are robust and fruit driven. Plums, wild berries and nice grape jam (not jelly). Finish has plenty of tannin and some bitter bite. Anethole (the licorice aroma compound).
