EMH Vineyards
Black Cat Cabernet Sauvignon
2009. Dark cherry, hints of earth and tobacco. The nose is making me happy. More dark cherry and earth, tannins and acid in a perfect place. Another great one by Merrill.

Jul 11th, 2015Give it a 30-60 min decant. Good structure, and finish.

May 13th, 2019Needed 90 minutes to open up, at which point there was a distinct red-fruit profile, led by juicy cherries and raspberries. The tone shifted to darker fruits with additional air, and a touch of the minerality I often find in these wines became more clear. Medium + bodied, with nice lift in the finish. Should drink well for at least several years to come.

Apr 28th, 2019Best at pop and pour. It fell apart, the longer it was decanted. Fruit became thin, acidity was through the roof, and alcohol stuck out. Maybe a bad bottle, but this was not enjoyable and I have to keep it real and tell my experience.

Jul 21st, 2018My first experience with the ‘01 and I’m struck by the smooth mouthfeel, mature black fruit notes, and the way the wine’s tannins and acidity help it unfurl with extended time in the glass. At the four hour mark, this is on full display and showing no signs of fading. In short, it’s a lovely, nicely aging cab from a favorite producer.

May 30th, 20182006 Black Cat is in a great place today. Very multidimensional and still quite lush, but not overpowering by any means.

Oct 27th, 2017Gave this 2.5 hrs in the decanter. Great color at age 10 - a very dark, velvety ruby in the glass. The nose is fresh and clean, and the palate offers a mix of mature red and black berries backed by a streak of tangy acidity. Faint notes of dried oregano, subtle spice and tobacco show in the long finish. It's been 5 years since my last bottle and this has developed very well in the interim.
