Color was garnet red. Slight prunes and grassy nose, can definitely sense the age. Slightly sweet with low to moderate tannins 4.5/10 and low body. Semi short finish. Decent wine but prefered the 1999.

From my father’s cellar, this was opened for about an hour in the bottle before pouring. We were worried that we held onto this wine for too long. But weren't we surprised, especially for 16 year old wine at under $9.00! The color is deep and dark opaque red. Love the nose on this wine. Very gentle but started with a soft barnyard or farm smell, not manure. Then moved on to chalk, dark berries and flowers. Very savory and delicious on the palate complemented with beautifully balanced moderate tannins and body. Very well integrated, so smooth and well put together. Only downside was the short finish. But who cares for $9.00 a bottle and still so deliciously smooth after 16 years! I will try a newer vintage in South Africa later this year, and if it continues to do this well it will be one of my top 5 wines under $10.
