Finally opened this '02 spatlese alongside my world-famous chicken-fried steak and gravy -it didn't let me or my famous dish down. Right off the bat you get some delicious honey and bruised, carmelized apple on the nose. A hint of petrol but not overbearing by any means. The palate features fresh nectarine and apricot, washed away by a refreshing limey acidity. Only a touch of botrytis from a vintage where kabinett and spatlese reigned supreme because of harvest rains. Pretty sweet, but fresh for being an adolescent. Great value.

Powerful petrol, slate, and white peach and baked apple aromas with hints of cinnamon, cloves that yield to luxurious tastes of apple cider, white cranberries, and guava nectar. Also smells like the checkout gal at Total Wine who wore too much perfume and transferred her Versace onto the outside of my bottle.

With time to breathe, reveals bouquet of French milled soap and wild roses.
