Dr. Heger
Pinot Noir
When you study German wine all day and crave a Spätburgunder it’ll do. Have I had better? Maybe but have I had better in a litre for twenty bucks no and it tastes like...pinot noir from Germany so yay. I’ll take it. Or it’ll take me which is which. Oh wait tech stuff: garnet, fair amount of earthymineralgaspetrolkerosene friggin’ pencil lead thingzzz on the nose. More on the medium plus acid, medium minus tannin, medium alcohol palate. Letting it air out in hopes that the cherry notes continue to holler.
Hour later...the cola and green herbal kites speaking up. I’m gonna continue to snap up spätburgunder til I cannot

There's an unusual smoky buttery undeetone here. It's hidden behind minerality and fruit but it gives the wine a nice complexity.

Apr 12th, 2015Not a huge fan of this bouquet. Pretty stemmy. Sort of like fertilized soil.
Dark cherry, good berry fruits, high acid, astringent.
It’s just okay.

Light, very mellow. Little tartness. Very smooth. Good.

Dec 16th, 2018Burgundy has gotten way too expensive. Thankfully, Germany’s filling the void with great value. All the elements are in balance here. Lovely, silky texture with red berry fruit, rose petal and a fresh mineral undertone reflective of the volcanic soils of Baden. Good stuff here. Acidity is fine tuned and not overwhelming at all. This 2012 is ready to drink now but could benefit from some cellar time.
