Oh damn. Well. The Gascon workaday bev Malbec is good but this is...deeper and has balance if not nuance. The art film that is arresting despite depth.
So. That.
The thing is I didn’t expect it to knock out the basic Gascon but damnnnn the ripe plus the ripe plus superb levels that are not...see/breathe/chemical through. Very pretty to look at and there’s more than meets the eye.

Deep purple in color with a short purple/ reddish rim.

Fruity on the nose with blackberries, sweet plums, cherries, black currants, oak, cola, tobacco, licorice, vanilla, leather, pencil lead, chocolates, coffee, spices, vinaigrette, beef jerky and black pepper.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with plums, black currants, raspberries, earth, light vegetables, dark chocolates, graphite, bitter herbs, earth, spices, black olives, tobacco leaf and peppercorn.

Medium on the finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cranberries.

This is a nice Malbec from Mendoza, Argentina. Not fully balanced, but showing nice complexity and mouthfeel.

Good by itself and better with food. Spicy with a tangy finish. Much softer as a 4 year old than before.

Needs 3 hours to open up properly, and remove some of the acidity.

Aged for 15 months in Oak barrels.

I paired it with cheeses and light appetizers.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

89 points.

$22.

Happy new year to all of you!

Dark ruby in color with a brick rim.

Fruity nose of blackberries, blueberries, cherries, licorice, oak, vanilla, cloves, tobacco, coffee, earth, leather, chocolates, peppercorn, spices and vinaigrette.

Medium plus in body and smooth, with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with blackberries, black plums, cherries, earth, wood, licorice, vanilla, spices, peppercorn, smoke, chocolates, mocha and coffee.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and black pepper.

This 9 year old Mendoza Malbec, is very enjoyable now, by itself or with food. Well balanced with nice complexity. Good right out of the bottle and better as it opens up (30 minutes).

I had the 2014 not too long ago and this was better.

I paired it with light appetizers.

Aged for 15 months in Oak barrels.

14.8% alcohol by volume.

Deep purple/ inky in color with a very short purplish rim.

Great fruity nose with black currants, blackberries, cherries, vanilla, cedar, chocolates, tobacco, green vegetables, graphite, herbs, tar, leather, earth, cloves and black pepper.

Medium plus in body and smooth, with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with blackberries, black currants, plums, cooked cherries, oak, earth, leather, tobacco leaf, light vegetables, coffee, chocolates, bell pepper, spices and peppercorn.

Medium plus in finish with round tannins and spices.

This is a nice surprise. This Argentinian Malbec is drinking very nicely now, without too many green notes. Smooth and spicy mouthfeel with enough tannins to make it interesting. Showing nice complexity and balance.

Would be better in a few years, with better complexity.
Decanting is a must here. 2 hours at the least. Please have patience.

Good enough to drink by itself, but can pair well with BBQ Meats.

I really like this wine. After letting it breathe for half an hour, this was surprisingly smooth, subtly spicy, and well balanced with dark fruit. Amazing on its own, but having it with a "vintage" English white cheddar and an aged havarti was remarkable. The cheddar mellowed out the wine's sharpness, while the havarti seemed to enhance the sharpness. One of the best wines I've had in a few months.

Well rounded full bodied Malbec with fruity undertones and a hint of chocolate accompanying a tart finish.
