Bran Caia Ilatraia Maremma Toscana Red Blend

A good wine. But a bit of a let down, if I’m being honest. 60% cab and I expected more fruit, structure and body. It veered too much into the Sangiovese territory. Not complaining but not celebrating either.

Black Forest berries and Licorice

Solid super Tuscan. Complex fruit, flowers and touch of earth and coffee

e, reigned in by its Tuscan provenance—and that is a good thing, a food-friendly thing. The 2013 Brancaia Illatraia quietly unspools with notes of plums and ripe blackberries steeped in thyme. Burning embers, dust, and juniper berries add layered complexity. On the palate, it’s round and plush, with mouth-coating tannins and bright acidity that ebb and flow in a core of juicy dark fruit. Sample 14.0% ABV

Complex nose with dark fruit, wet oak/cedar and mushroom. Dry and higher acidity than expected, however well balanced.

Wonderful blend- will definitely order again soon

Sundays are my Friday, and having just got this in the store I chose a Supertuscan and ribeye for tonight’s lockdown dinner for one. I loved this wine, and it couldn’t have been a better choice for a peppery charred steak.

Bright and juicy but with super-ripe, chewy tannin and broad mouth-coating texture. Fresh black cherry and red plum and then a thick thread of graphite and gravel. Green peppercorn, charred fennel. 40% cab, 40% petit verdot, 10% cab franc

Aged well and probably could do a few more years

Nice rich body to this wine. Cherry and spice noted with longer finish.

Good. Not great. Wanted to like it, but it was just okay.
