Fruit Fruit and more Fruit. Easy drinking but not much personality.

Jun 5th, 2019High QPR. This has black fruit and moderate tannins. More of an elegant style. Not as earthy as I like.

Nov 19th, 2016Deep color and pretty heavy on the alcohol but had the rich, cooked fruit flavors I love. Better with food.

Nov 17th, 2016Soft supple silky wine after a 3 hour decanting. Dried berry, ripe veg, a great balance between fruit and tannin. It is after all, a Roth property. Coffee, grown next to tomato stalk, medium weighty. Worth the price. And enjoyable now.

Oct 9th, 2016Actually labeled the "Grande Reserve" cabernet now. You've got to set aside some prejudices to drink this wine. But to me, it's always had sentimental value. The Los Vascos Reserve was one of the first wines I ever bought, years ago when I first got into this stuff and learned what Lafite-Rothschild was. That was the 1995 vintage - and the wine was terrific. It's been years since I've had one of these - in theory I should know better now, right? Even the producer seems to have intentionally devalued its own brand. This used to have a label like the rest of the Lafite family in Bordeaux and then they redesigned it so that it looks like any number of Chilean supermarket brands. Like they were actively trying to warn people off! But you know what? It's still terrific. I need to start keeping some of these on hand. This pretty much delivers everything I'm after when I'm in the mood for a Bordeaux. In fact the flavors aren't only Bordeaux-like but reminiscent of Pauillac with the cedary, lead-pencil character. Just enough spicy oak to give it those extra notes you want in a cabernet without making its presence obvious. It has a little bit more warmth and a little bit more fruit density than you would expect from Bordeaux, but nowhere near the point of having a "New World" personality. This has more stuffing than most any Bordeaux at its price point and more class than most any California wine that costs 10 times as much.
