Last night was the Confrerie St. Etienne Spring dinner. It was my first time attending. This is a chapter of the original group out of Alsace, France, and is the only chapter here in the US...just happens to be in my neck of the woods! Great introduction to Alsace wines.

This was the second wine with the first course Chilean sea bass. Though I enjoyed the grand cru Riesling overall, I thought this paired best with the course. That being said, that was not my first thought. This really changed after about 20-30mins. Initially muted, oily and a slightly buttery changed to really be floral and bright.

Rotenberg Pinot Gris. The nose is showing smoky minerality, with subtlety of fruit; the palate is dry but intensely rich with deceptive acidity and great length. This wine is a bit shy right now but has the stuffing to go a long way.

From the well known Zind Humbrecht domaine, driven in biodynamic - this wine is a beautiful baby that will display so much more in the the future and age very well - all about finesse and élégance - a crispy acidity and a generous wine with beautiful density - vineyard of more than 30 years on steep calcareous soil 😀👏

Very light and dry. Mudscadet-like. Very clear. Chalky with a zesty punch. Interesting

Very fresh, with some spicy notes coming forward with more air. Too young, needs time!
