Aromas of ripe plum and black cherry together with earth lavender and thyme. Love the garrigue perfume - I could smell this for hours. Medium weight palate - very savoury with same notes coming through with fine grained tannins. A certain bitter note to the tannins which was not unwelcome. Polished rusticity - if that makes sense. Of the 3 individual Cuvées I agree that Cabassaou might be (marginally) considered the best. I must seek out more of these Tempier Cuvées and bury them in the cellar for a decade.

yes, this is a photo of a computer image. tasted as part of a Mourvèdre wine group tasting via zoom, wines portioned into woozies! orange jumps out of the glass, then apricot, lemon meringue, savory notes. slightly viscous, creamy. medium + long acid. gorgeous.

In a really good place right now. Still fresh with understated black fruits, black olives, herds de Provence and s loooong lingering dusty finish

2015 Domaine Tempier, Cuvée Cabassaou.
(95% Mourvèdre, 4% Syrah, 1% Cinsault)
Leather, earthiness and raspberry in the nose.
moderate tannin and 11-12% alcohol...
One of the benchmark Mourvèdre can achieve !!

Dark Ruby red almost Black in colour. Dense on nose after decanting - quite closed restrained and latent needing time and swirling to open up. After 2 hours a nice plummy earthy perfume coming through. On the palate plummy tarry notes with cherry. Dusty and discreet Barb thought. Ultra savoury with very fine grained tannins. A great match with Lamb Chops. I’m not familiar with all of the individual Cuvées of Domaine Tempier but I believe Cabassaou is regarded as top of the tree - the others being La Miguoa and La Tourtine. Medium weight with medium plus intensity. Probably the best straight Mourvèdre I’ve ever had. Footnote: It appears this is a blend of at least 90% Mourvèdre with some Syrah and a little Cinsault.

This is why I drink Bandol. Leather and fruit, tannins resolved, complexity for days. Great juice.
