Domaine Richaud
Rasteau Côtes du Rhône Grenache Syrah
In a great place now. Herbs de Provence on the nose. So pretty. Mineral, floral, big darker Grenache fruit. feral and funky. But overall gorgeous. Palate is stunning. With deep ripe dark fruit backed up by amazing acidity and depth. Holy smokes this is unreal. Epic finish and just so great. Will go 10 more years. Intense but balanced. Amazing power and concentration.

Sep 17th, 2018Big Richaud nose. Meat, pepper, teriyaki scents, some spices. Wild yet detailed. Palate needs some time, as is typical with Richaud wines. But nice freshness, fleshy vivid fruit, but a little hot now. Score will go up with I'm sure.
Day 2 Update - more liquer like aromas. Palate has come together and is super rich and fresh. Not a style I enjoy all the time but it's nice every once in a while.
Day 3 Update - super floral and ripe nose. Amazingly floral on day 3. Not there on 1 and 2. Palate is juicy, elegant and complex. Full of acids. Very impressive on day 3 and the best. Needs 5 years.

2012 vintage. If I am drinking southern Rhone, which I rarely drink I drink Richaud the most. 60 Grenache 40 Syrah. Deep nose. Black fruits. Pepper. Mint. Licorice. Palate has that masterful Richaud freshness. Also a bit of umami/funk that comes in good Southern Rhone wines. Palate is light for typical Rasteau but this is not typical Rasteau, but deep and detailed with exceptional mouthfeel and Incredible freshness along with lovely powdery tannins.

Feb 9th, 2015Once again Richaud does not disappoint! Worth letting it sit and open up a bit. When it does...well worth the wait!
