Out of magnum. On the nose, it's showing some oxidation. Almost a petroleum quality. Sour lemons (Lemonheads) & pineapple, under the funk, a bit of green apple, volcanic minerals, old, faded yellow lilies and saline. The palate shows the same oxidation & petroleum. The body is oily and waxy. The fruits match the nose. Volcanic minerals, grainy chalkiness, saline, some honey notes, old yellow lilies and round acidity and finish. Disappointing even though 07 was a difficult vintage but thought out of magnum it would have performed a little better. It's 3-4 past it's best showing. Photos of; granddaughter, Cataldina Lippo, their barrel room and estate grounds. Producer history and notes...Named for the 300-year-old Southern Burgundy village in which it is located, Monthelie Douhairet was run by the Douhairet family for many years. In 1989, Madame Douhairet asked renowned winemaker André Porcheret to take charge and added his name to the Domaine. André was the cellar manager at the Hospices de Beaune from 1976-88. Afterwards, he was hired by Lalou Bize Leroy (AKA The Queen of Burgundy) to make wines at Domaine Leroy from 1988–1993. He returned to the Hospices de Beaune from 1994–1999, and since 1989, he has also been overseeing Monthelie Douhairet Porcheret’s 15 acres, mainly in the Côte de Beaune appellations of Pommard, Volnay, Meursault and Monthelie.
