Domaine Marcel Lapierre
Morgon Gamay
So, yesterday was Beaujolais Nouveau Day. I would be remiss if I didn't mention it. While we are not tasting the 16 tonight, the 13 Marcel is not as fresh as it was upon it's release. However, it is far more complex. For those of you that have not tried Beaujolais (Gamay), you are missing a guilty pleasure and one of the greatest values in French Burgundy wine. Mathieu who has taken over for Marcel is nothing short of a Magician. Thanksgiving is this coming week. Time to try a Beaujolais with your turkey w/ a touch of cranberry sauce over a Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot etc. Pair a well made Beaujolais on the backside of the meal. You'll get hooked. The 13 Marcel is sweet liqueured cherries, stewed strawberries, plum, dark minerals, granite, dry red florals, spiced Christmas cake, vanilla, hay-straw with a minty eucalyptus presence & finishing w/black licorice anise. The one thing about Beaujolais is it's beautiful young and beautifully more complex with a few years of age. A well made Beaujolais is easily one of the Sommelier favorites!
